As the President of the International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IASSIDD), I am deeply honored and humbled by the opportunity to serve such a remarkable organization. Our community is built upon the dedication and passion of our members, who generously volunteer their time and expertise to advance our shared mission.
For those who I have not met I thought I would share something about me as way of introduction. I live on the traditional lands of Wadjuk Noongah People (First Nations) in Perth Western Australia. I’ve been with Curtin University, Perth Western Australia since 2008. Currently, I serve as the Head of School for the Curtin School of Allied Health. Prior to my tenure at Curtin, I held senior leadership positions at the Disability Services Commission of Western Australia. In this capacity, I spearheaded significant service developments and reforms aimed at enhancing therapy and community coordination for individuals with disabilities. I had the honor of serving as the President of the Australasian Society of Intellectual Disability from 2013 to 2017.
Central to my professional ethos is a belief in fostering positive, values-driven environments where individuals can thrive both personally and professionally. This conviction fuels my dedication to working collaboratively with others to unlock their full potential. My research interests are deeply rooted in my extensive experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families. I’m deeply committed to advocating for the inclusion of people with disabilities in our communities, both locally and globally.
In my personal life, I cherish spending time with my family and three grandchildren, nurturing my garden, and pursuing my passion for the arts through a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Arts) program. Furthermore, I remain committed to community development and service through my ongoing involvement with Rotary International. I am deeply grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to make meaningful contributions to academia, leadership, and community service, and I look forward to continuing this journey with enthusiasm and dedication.

Members Assembly
Considering the recent governance changes within IASSIDD, we happy to to announce an innovative approach to our Members Assemblies. Recognizing the importance of inclusivity and accessibility, we are transitioning these assemblies into online events, ensuring that all members can participate, regardless of their ability to attend Congresses in person.
By harnessing the power of digital technology, we aim to create a platform that transcends geographical boundaries and time zones, allowing members from around the globe to engage in meaningful dialogue and decision-making processes. To further enhance accessibility, we will host multiple sessions of the “same” assembly at different times, strategically spread across various time zones to accommodate the diverse needs of our membership base.
This strategic approach not only maximizes participation but also fosters a more inclusive and representative decision-making process. These online assemblies represent a pivotal step forward in our journey towards a more equitable and participatory governance structure. Together, let us embrace the opportunities afforded by digital connectivity to strengthen our community, amplify diverse perspectives, and drive positive change for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities worldwide.
