PIMD: What (re)connect us
University of Fribourg
17.02.2023
The establishment of secure attachments plays a crucial role in the socio-emotional development of children. At the individual and societal levels, individuals can hardly survive without privileged attachments to one or more people in their community. What links a child with PIMD to his or her parents, and vice versa? How can we, as professionals, support the construction of bonds and become attachment figures ourselves? How can we better (re)connect, within our society, with citizens with PIMD and their families?
Answers to these questions will be given by three experts, in the light of a developmental and sociological approach to the attachment process, the research results of our SIRG-PIMD colleague Dr. Sien Vandensande and the experience of parents.

New Project
Adaptation in French of the assessment Routes for Learning
Le Petit Conservatoire du Polyhandicap
The Petit Conservatoire du Polyhandicap has obtained the authorization from the Welsh government to proceed with its adaptation into French in 2020. We adopted a team approach of adaptation methodology: a first team of scientific collaborators proceeded to a first translation of the tool in 2021; a second team, made up of experts in the field of PIMD, stabilized the translation of a certain number of terms and expressions. A third team, made up of special needs education teachers in a school (pupils with PIMD), checked the clarity of the French formulations. Two steps remain to be completed: clinical validation and translation of the user manual.
