TRIBUTE – Philip Davidson

Tribute to Philip Davidson (1941-2022)

It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the death of Philip Davidson, our immediate Past-President, on Thursday 10 February 2022. Phil passed away from complications of malignancy in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, USA.

Phil was a decades-long pillar of IASSIDD, contributing through lifelong leadership, research, especially in the field of ageing and as a research supervisor and mentor to many. Phil was the IASSIDD President from 2017 to 2019 and until 2021 was an active member of the Executive Committee and Council. He was Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics, Environmental Medicine and Psychiatry at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, New York, where for many years, he was the Director of the Strong Center for Developmental Disabilities. He made a lasting contribution to the international field of Intellectual and Developmental Disability.

We extend heartfelt sympathy to Margaret, Phil’s wife, Andrew and Alec, his sons, and their families.

Phil will be greatly missed and his legacy will be long remembered and much valued.

A formal tribute will be published in the IASSIDD journal.

Sincerely,

Colleen M Adnams
IASSIDD President
